Tim Gardels has over 30 years of experience in the Design and Construction of Regional Shopping Centers, Mixed-Use Developments, Heavy Highway Construction, Industrial Conversions and Office Renovations including 27 years with General Growth Properties, a publicly traded REIT, from 1979-1981 and 1985-2009, Construction Management consulting for Navistar 2010-11, VP Construction and Development for Sears Holdings 2011, and currently Senior VP Construction Management for Bucksbaum Retail Properties.
Tim’s responsibilities include management of Architects, Engineers, Contractors, and Tenant Coordinators responsible for planning, designing, and constructing green field developments, complex re-developments, cosmetic renovations and building conversions.
During Tim’s career he has completed physical due diligence on over 125 property acquisitions, Project Management of 18 retail developments of 100-200 acres with 750,00sf to 2,000,000sf of retail use, corporate renovations, over 80 re-development projects ranging from $1,000,000 to $350,000,000, tenant coordination of over 3000 tenants. One of the more significant projects was the mixed-use re-development of Natick Mall in Natick Massachusetts. A vertical development on 16 acres with a 1000 car parking garage, 210 unit condominium, 750,000sf of retail including Nordstrom and Nieman Marcus, and renovation of the existing Mall. Total construction cost of $350,000,000.
Tim is a Construction Engineering graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, was President of the Student Chapter of AGC, serves on design and construction Governing Committee for ICSC, and has been a speaker at ICSC Centerbuild and Women in Construction conferences.
Tim and his family currently live in Naperville, Illinois.
